Biomass and Food Processing Technology focuses on developing kemurgi and food process engineering science based on local Indonesian raw materials to produce food and feed products and components, substitute products for similar petroleum-based products, up to industrial scale.
The areas that form the basis of expertise in this study are:
- food and kemurgi (non-food) process engineering,
- design and characterization of food products and kemurgi, as well as
- separation and purification of biomass components.
Some of the superior research products that have been produced include:
- fercaf (fermented cassava flour)
- drop-in type renewable fuel from palm oil
- animal feed calcium soap from palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD)
- magnesium stearate and vitamin E from PFAD
- xylitol sugar from empty palm fruit bunches
